The teacher

Dr. Else Verbeek

I’m Else Verbeek, Associate Professor of animal welfare. I have more than 15 years of experience as a researcher on behaviour, cognition, emotions and physiology. I also teach several MSc and PhD courses at the University in Uppsala (Sweden).

The aim of my research is to support to meaningful changes in dogs’ lives. It can take years or even decades for scientific knowledge to reach the people who need it most. My goal is to is to bridge this gap by bringing you the latest scientific knowledge, empowering you to help dogs overcome anxiety and enhance the well-being of both dogs and their owners.

My mission is to create a better world in which no dog has to suffer.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation when it comes to dog welfare and what truly benefits our dogs. The internet is full of well-meaning but incorrect advice. The problem is that scientific results are often ignored or misinterpreted by people with poor scientific understanding. This well-meaning advice can perpetuate anxiety problems in dogs and in some cases (such as when punishment-based training is recommended) even make things worse.

That is why I want to use this masterclass to give you the latest scientific knowledge in a practical way. This way you can get started immediately without having to spend weeks poring over complicated literature.

More than 770 dog behaviourists have already participated in this Masterclass. Many of them have put their new knowledge into practice immediately!
